Description: Beattie had arrived at The Dell from Blackburn in the summer of 1998 for £1m soon after Kevin Davies moved in the opposite direction.

After making only 7 appearances for Rovers, Beattie has had a considerable impact on the south coast with his imposing style frightening the opposition defence.

Beattie is a fine all round attacker, a big target man possessing aerial prowess and a keen eye for goal.  His holding up and distribution of the ball is good and his wide range of goals including spectacular long distance strikes and free kicks continue to attract the attention of the so called big clubs.

Southampton's star player was the leading English marksman in the 2002/2003 Premiership with 23 goals, catching the eye of England manager Sven Goran Eriksson who has so far handed him 2 caps to add to his 5 U21 caps.
