Roeder talks MilnerNewcastle manager Glen Roeder has dismissed reports linking West Ham to James Milner.
Roeder told his club's official website: "I have told James that I am very happy for him to stay here.
"He told me that he knows nobody can be guaranteed first team football and all he wanted was a fair opportunity. He was happy with what I have told him, so let's hope he comes back a lot more mature and assertive."
