Striker backed for EnglandDarius Vassell has been backed by Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce to win an England recall in time for next year's World Cup.
The Birmingham-born star netted for the fifth time in the Premiership this season during Sunday's handsome win at Charlton and Pearce is convinced if Vassell maintains his current standards, Eriksson will not be able to leave him out.
Pearce said: "If Darius plays like he did on Sunday and like he did against Aston Villa a few weeks ago, it would be impossible to keep him out of the squad,
"His pace and strength were major reasons why we earmarked him during the summer and, so far, things have worked out well for him and us.
"What he has to try and do is maintain those standards over a consistent period. Providing he could achieve that, he would be in the England squad because I can't see four people offering us more than he has given us in those particular two games that is for sure."
