Spurs to hijack Barcelona starMartin Jol is believed to have made a late bid to try and steal Barcelona midfielder Gerard from the clutches of Monaco.
The 26-year-old is to leave Camp Nou on a free transfer as his contract expires at the end of June.
Despite his lack of opportunities at Barca there has been no shortage of interest in the midfielder, but it appeared that Ligue 1 side Monaco had practically clinched a deal to sign him with the player himself admitting he was attracted by a switch to the Stade Louis II.
He stated: "I am attracted by Monaco,
"I have had several phone calls with Didier Deschamps.
"He talked about his interest and I stated to him that I am tempted by the idea to join ASM.
"Several teams are following me, there are Spanish and Italian teams, but Monaco is the one which has shown the greatest interest."
However, it appears that Spurs are ready to launch a late offensive to hijack Monaco's deal.
