Shearer rested

Graeme Souness has decided to rest Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer for Wednesday's game at Fulham.

Souness believes Shearer needs a break after a recent hectic period.

Shearer will be among the substitutes at Craven Cottage with Patrick Kluivert set for a rare start.

Souness said: "Alan needs a rest and so Kluivert will play instead.”
