Pompey talk to Newcastle starDespite being given permission to speak to the player, Portsmouth has insisted they are a long way from signing Newcastle defender Andy O'Brien.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international as on the South Coast today to discuss a prospective move away from St James' Park, although Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie, sounded a note of caution after expressing his frustration that the news had leaked out.
He told the club's official website: 'I think everyone now knows my stance on this and we are still a long way from signing Andy, though the first steps of talking to him are underway,
'We did get agreement from Newcastle to speak to him and that is where the matter rests at this moment in time.
'Once again, I would rather that we had been left to talk to the lad and have something conclusive to say, which is not the case at the moment.'
