Pompey launch Chelsea bidPortsmouth has launched an audacious bid to secure the services of Chelsea duo Alexei Smertin and Mikael Forssell.
The Times says Chelsea may allow Smertin, who had a loan period with Portsmouth last season, to sign permanently for the South Coast club.
Portsmouth manager Alain Perrin is looking to bring in six players in the summer and hopes to sign Smertin for about £2 million, or, failing that, lure him on loan for a season.
The champions may also let Mikael Forssell, who has previously spent lengthy loan spells with Birmingham City, head to Fratton Park on loan.
Milan Mandaric, the Portsmouth chairman, said: "With him and Alexei Smertin, we're talking about quality players and players who know the Premiership,
"Alexei loved it here."
