The France international who has found life hard in the premiership could be tempted to move home to regain his confidence after a hatful of blunders at the back for Newcastle last season.
Marseille chairman Diouf told L'Equipe: "Jean-Alain Boumsong is an experienced player who is part of the French team group and who has shown all his defensive efficiency in Ligue 1,"
