The Italian international has suffered numerous ankle and knee problems over the last 24 months which has restricted his use.
However, the former Atalanta and Juventus star told the club's website: "I'm very happy with how things are progressing,
"I now just need to think about working as hard as I can because this is the road that I must go down.
"Setting a date for my comeback is not important for me right now, the fundamental issue is to fully recover."
