Mendieta: I knew my season was overIt has been confirmed that Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta will not play again this season.
The Spanish star damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a league match against Portsmouth in October.
Mendieta told Marca: "I knew my season had ended as soon as I injured myself,
"Injuries always come at a bad time, but this one was especially bad.
"Middlesbrough had built a good team. When I injured myself we were fourth, expectations, after winning the (Carling) Cup last year, were very big.
"But I knew my season was over when I injured myself. Now my objective is to recover and only return when I am fit."
