Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has tabled a one-year deal with the option of a further season.
But the Spanish club can offer Pires a better proposition.
Wenger is keen to keep hold of Pires, but has a policy of only offering one-year deals to ageing players.
Seville and Inter Milan have also shown an interest in Pires.
