Former Spurs star returns for pre-seasonCharlton manager Iain Dowie has welcomed the return of Luke Young to the club after a proposed £4million switch to London rivals West Ham broke down.
"As far as I am concerned, Luke is a fundamental part of the team and we are delighted to have him on board," declared the Charlton manager.
"Hopefully our gain will be West Ham's loss."
The defender is now fully recovered from an ankle injury which ended his World Cup hopes, and Dowie insisted: "Luke has come back in terrific shape.
"He has been at the foremost of all of the fitness regimes, and his response has been absolutely first class.
"Luke is the team captain, and we have been talking regularly.
"His demeanour around the place has been magnificent and I cannot speak highly enough of Luke at the moment."
