Ferdinand: Ronaldo is the bestManchester United rock Rio Ferdinand thinks playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo has been the outstanding performer in the Premiership this season.
Ferdinand said: "In adverse situations the top players make sure their performances get noticed more than anything else and Ronnie has done that this season.
"With all the stuff from the England v Portugal fiasco, you saw the reaction of the fans when his name was announced - they booed.
"But he answers on the football pitch and he has been the best player in the league this season so far.
"For someone who receives the ball and who wants the ball as much as he does, who is getting kicked from pillar to post every game, that tells you he is a strong character and someone who has the balls to stand up to people.
"The best players get booed. Alan Shearer used to get booed at every away ground and look how many goals he scored.
"Ronaldo is doing the same at the moment. He's scoring, he knows when to pass the ball. He's doing his tricks in the right areas."
He added: "A lot has happened to him over the last couple of years, on and off the pitch.
"It takes a great player with strong character to come through that. People are going to compare it with Beckham but I think Ronaldo is in his own bracket.
"Don't get me wrong - a lot happened to Becks. But Ronnie has had, especially personally, a fair bit more than many players have had to cope with.
"He's done very well for us, and long may it continue."
