Defender signs with Charlton

Luke Young has committed his immediate future to Charlton after signing a new four-year contract with the club today.

The player said: "It's great from a personal point of view that everything is sorted out now,"

"Now I'll concentrate on getting myself fully fit and in tip-top shape for the pre-season games and, of course, the new season.

"I can't speak highly enough of how myself and everybody else have been impressed with the first couple of weeks of training.

"It's been bright and forward-thinking and it feels as though everything is moving in the right direction."

He continued: "After listening to what the manager has had to say and the direction he wants to take the club, it feels like a place where you want to work.

"To be honest a chat I had with the manager played a massive part in it all. The gaffer has big ambitions for the club and he wants things done properly.

"It's great from a personal point of view because I feel I've been quite consistent for the club over the past three seasons, but there is a real sense of togetherness here and it's that I want to be a part of."
