Boro star: We need new bloodMiddlesbrough star Stewart Downing thinks the club have to invest in new players during the off season in order to be more competitive.
Downing told the official Middlesbrough website. "We definitely need new blood, there's no doubt about that,"
"No disrespect to any of the lads in the team but it's a squad game now and we haven't got enough players.
"We need more strength in depth and people competing for places. The top teams have it so if we want to challenge them, then it's got to be the same situation here."
He added: "Given a couple of our recent performances, there is a question mark and we leave ourselves open to that accusation, so we are looking for a response,"
