Mancini: It had to happenInter Milan tactician Roberto Mancini has played down his sides 1-1 draw with Udinese, a result which ended Serie A record of 17 consecutive victories.
“It had to happen sooner or later. You can’t win all the time,” said Mancini.
“It coincided with Udinese’s visit, but as we were in an emergency situation, I can’t say I’m unhappy with the result.”
“In the first half our performance was average. These things can happen, as when you play so often, you can’t always be at the top of your game. Udinese took the lead and clammed up, creating a few problems for us. We could’ve done a little more upfront.”
“The players always give their best. It’s only normal that eventually we’d end up in a game where for at least half of it we weren’t all that sharp. After the break we definitely improved and the only problem was that we wasted chances.”
He added: “It wasn’t bad to always win, but at a certain point it almost becomes a weight on your shoulders. Unconsciously I think it was affecting us. It is important for us to keep our distance and the 14-point gap from Roma has remained the same, with one round less to play. That’s fine with me.”
