Newcastle strike oneNewcastle boss Graeme Souness welcomed his side's hard-fought 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the Uefa cup quarter final.
After Alan Shearer gave the Magpies a slender victory Souness said: "I am just glad to get it out of the way. We have not played well but we have won the game and did not concede which is important,
"We were playing a team that likes to play keep-ball but I think we limited them to very little.
"The important thing is we will be going to Portugal with a clean sheet and an advantage."
