Newcastle receive Shearer boostNewcastle skipper Alan Shearer is confident of being fit to face Sporting Lisbon on Thursday after an injury forced him to retire at half time during Sunday's defeat at Tottenham.
Shearer picked up a dead leg in the first half at White Hart Lane and was removed from the firing line as a precaution, with a trip to Portugal in the Uefa Cup on Thursday followed by an FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on Sunday clearly in mind.
Shearer told the Evening Chronicle: "I should be all right for Thursday night,
"I got the dead leg early on and I wasn't 100 percent from that point so, with the games on Thursday and Sunday in mind, it was wise to take me off."
