Given out of Lisbon tieIrish goalkeeper Shay Given is a major doubt for Newcastle United’s Uefa Cup quarter final second leg tie against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday but should play in the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on Sunday.
Given, who is suffering from a hip injury and missed the defeat at Tottenham on Sunday, told Newcastle's official website: "I haven't done anything since Thursday and I won't know how the injury is until I start doing goalkeeping again in training,
"I've been having treatment and taking anti-inflammatories as much as I can. I'm just hoping the tablets kick in and, hopefully, I'll be okay.
"I've been fit for the last four years and this is the first time I've been out through injury.
"It's touch and go for the two games this week but it would be a kick in the teeth for me if I had to miss the two biggest games we've had for a long time."
