Van Nistelrooy wants to returnReal Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy thinks he can still help the Dutch national team if he can sort out his troubles with coach Marco van Basten.
van Nistelrooy told De Telegraaf: "I think that I can still fulfil an important role in the young squad,"
"I called van Basten one time and said I want to feel and notice that everything is good, otherwise I can't get started.
"You can hold those talks with van Basten. If you know that somebody is hard, you don't take that effort.
"In contrary to what a lot of people think, van Basten is not hard.
"I do find him rigorous, I just needed that good feeling because I saw what happened with Mark van Bommel - been away twice and come back.
"That has never worked again."
He added: "I also wanted to hear something concerning the future,"
"Guarantees I cannot give you, he said.
"I have done this long enough to know that a coach cannot do that, so I didn't demand a starting position.
"I just wanted to hear that he was positive again, that the co-operation could lead to something again. Then you don't guarantee anything, right?"
