Villa's interest in Silvain Distin has led to speculation that Mellberg could find himself surplus to requirements.
However, the Evening Mail has been told that Mellberg, who still has three years left on a four-year contract he signed in May 2004, is not for sale.
A source said: "Mellberg's name is etched on the manager's list in ink for next season. He is not for sale."
