Upson discusses switchFormer Arsenal defender Matthew Upson has talked of the reason he decided to leave Championship side Birmingham City for Premiership strugglers West Ham.
"Why West Ham? Because they showed a really keen interest in me," said Upson.
"I think when you go into any job you want to feel a big part of it and it was a big factor for me that West Ham showed such a keen interest.
"And it's a big football club so those two things combined together to tick all the boxes.
He added: "I don't believe we will get relegated,"
"The only problem you look at is the league position, you can't disguise that, but I firmly believe given the transfer activity in January and the good base of players the club already has that won't happen."
On his time at Birmingham Upson added: "It's the end of an era - I had a fantastic four years there but it came down to a business decision in the end and I left and I'm very happy,"
"The words 'release me' are a bit strong, I wanted clarification because I know ultimately that he's the decision maker and we had a conversation about the situation - at no point did I demand to be released but I did express a will to speak to West Ham."
