Sunderland chase Charlton striker

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has decided on a swoop for Charlton striker Francis Jeffers.

McCarthy had a revised £1.5million bid for Wolves forward Kenny Miller rejected after appearing to reach agreement on a £1.8m deal for Blackburn hit-man Jon Stead.

Former England international Jeffers has been pushed further down the pecking order at Charlton by the recent arrival of Ipswich’s Darren Bent in a £3m switch.
