Smith: Fergie is exceptionalWalter Smith believes Scotland skipper Barry Ferguson proved he is the equal of any of Italy's Serie A stars when the Rangers midfielder won his 27th cap in Saturday night's 2-0 defeat to Italy in Milan.
Smith said: Barry was as good as any player on the pitch in the second half - I don't think there is any doubt about that,
"He is the captain of the team and I think he has matured into an exceptional player."
