Roma defender: I rejected Red Devils moveRoma defender Philippe Mexes says he has knocked back two offers from Manchester United during his career.
“I was 16 or 17 the first time they asked me to join Manchester United,” said Mexes.
“I was then contacted again when I left Auxerre, although it was mainly Coach Guy Roux who thought that I should move to England,”
“However, I decided to sign for Roma as I felt they wanted me more.
“Furthermore, I didn’t feel that I could face such a big change. At the time Roma were an important club, but not as strong as today.”
He added: “I visited Manchester and I met Alex Ferguson. I was young and it felt like a dream, but I wouldn’t change a single thing,”
“I have improved a lot in the Italian championship and I don’t know if this would have happened in England.
“Moving to Roma definitely wasn’t a waste of time,”
