Gray thankful to HughesBlackburn defender Michael Gray has admitted boss Mark Hughes was right to freeze him out last season.
The 31-year-old former England international was loaned out to Leeds for the final three months of last term, it appeared his Ewood Park career was at an end.
After setting up the winner against Man United on Saturday he said: "I would like to think my career is back on track now,
"The manager was right to leave me out. I didn't play particularly well against Chelsea or Middlesbrough. We had two bad results and I didn't get in again.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my spell and Leeds and thought at one stage something might happen in that direction. But I stuck it out and worked ever so hard in pre-season.
"I have been knocking at the manager's door because I knew I was ready. I have had to wait a long time to play in the Premiership again but hopefully this is just the beginning and I can get a nice run in the team."
