Brown: We provedRed Devils defender Wes Brown thinks the players that were brought in against Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day proved they have what it takes to compete for places at Old Trafford.
Speaking on behalf of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ji-Sung Park, Darren Fletcher, Mikael Silvestre and himself, Brown told MUTV: "It was a good day. The gaffer changed the team around a little bit. A few of us who have not played came in and in the end we got a good result.
"The players who have not been playing did well and proved we are as good.
"When you are called upon, you have to be ready. It will be the squad that wins the title."
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: "There is just one thing that niggles me and that is when I hear someone say: 'Oh yes, they are a good team, but United have nothing below their first-choice XI'.
"I regard that, at best, as short-sighted, and actually rather an insult to the players who make up our squad and to myself, as if I hadn't bothered to build quality in depth. How can they dismiss the calibre of players we have?"
