Boro welcome back striker

Massimo Maccarone was last night welcomed back into the Middlesbrough fold by boss Steve McClaren.

The Italian striker, 25, was called into the Boro squad for their four-day tournament in the Algarve and the Riverside manager explained: "Massimo has come back to Middlesbrough because of the failure to agree a loan deal with Siena.

"So he is coming with us to Portugal and it is up to him to try to win back his place in the team."
