Black Cats striker backed to succeedShot-shy Sunderland striker Jon Stead has been backed by boss Mick McCarthy to end his 11-game goal drought.
Following a £1.8million move from Blackburn in the summer Stead has drawn a blank but McCarthy said: "I won't turn my back on him. It's easy to start knocking people.
"Jon moved from Huddersfield in 2004 and scored the goals that kept Rovers up that season. It's not happening for him here, but it's not happening for many of us."
