Barry admits exit wishAston Villa star Gareth Barry has revealed that he was looking to leave the club over the summer until Martin O'Neill took the reigns as manager.
Barry, 25, said: "I'd virtually asked the club for a move in the summer,"
"I wanted to know what offers were out there. I wanted to know if clubs were interested in me because I felt it was the time to move on for the sake of my career.
"But then Martin O'Neill got the job and I saw the reception he received from fans when he came to Villa Park for the first time. They were ecstatic. He was mobbed. To be honest, that started me thinking 'is it the right thing for me to move on?'
"I signed a new four-year deal and am glad I made the decision I did.
"I feel vindicated in stopping because, although we've had a bit of a blip in recent weeks, I can take a lot of positives out of what has happened."
